The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has reiterated its commitment to empowering young Nigerians through aquaculture and agri-food systems transformation.
On Tuesday in Badagry, Lagos State, Dr. Ogunniyi Adebayo, who represented Ms. Dede Ekoue, IFAD Nigeria Country Director, participated in the Next Gen Leaders for Aquaculture Innovation Dialogue & Graduation Ceremony for young professionals.
Speaking during a panel discussion on “How Global Organizations Offer Opportunities for Youth and Aquaculture,” IFAD highlighted two of its flagship initiatives in Nigeria: the FGN/NDDC/IFAD/LIFE-ND Programme, which drives youth engagement and aquaculture development, and the IITA-implemented Agrihub Project, an IFAD grant programme designed to foster innovation, skills, and opportunities for young people in the agriculture sector.
Dr. Adebayo also shared best practices from Nigeria–IFAD cooperation in developing youth entrepreneurship in aquaculture, while providing participants with information on how to access these programmes.
The event, attended by representatives from the United States Consulate in Lagos, the Lagos State Government, FAO, AGRA, IITA, and other development partners, served as a platform to showcase aquaculture innovations and celebrate the graduation of young professionals in the sector.
It was jointly organised by the American Soybean Association (ASA) and the World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH), in collaboration with SejFarms and the Lagos State Government.
