KACRAN Seeks Adequate Funding For Livestock Development Ministry

by AgroNigeria

In a bid to address the rising insecurity in Nigeria, the Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has called on the National Assembly to allocate adequate funding to the newly established Ministry of Livestock Development.

In a statement issued in Damaturu, KACRAN’s National President, Khalil Mohammed Bello, emphasized that increased funding for the ministry is essential for fostering peace and stability, as well as resolving the persistent conflicts between herders and farmers.

He noted that the livestock ministry, established by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has the potential to enhance food security, economic productivity, job creation, and investment in the livestock sector.

“KACRAN is optimistic about the ministry’s success under the leadership of Honourable Alhaji Idi Muktar, a seasoned livestock farmer, alongside Permanent Secretary Dr. Chinyere Ijeoma Akujobi, a Veterinary Doctor, and Mrs. Winnie Lai Solarin, the Director of Animal Husbandry Services,” Bello stated.

He stressed the need to advocate for rural livestock farmers, who often lack access to government resources and support.

According to him, adequate funding will ensure that these beneficiaries directly benefit from national resources.

Bello warned that insufficient funding could hinder the ministry’s ability to deliver on its mandate, with negative consequences for national security, economic growth, and agricultural productivity.

KACRAN, therefore, appealed to the National Assembly to increase the proposed budget for the livestock ministry, stating that a substantial budgetary allocation would help drive conflict resolution, economic expansion, and lasting peace in Nigeria.
