by AgroNigeria

Kaduna State University (KASU) has become the first and only state university in Nigeria to secure a ₦1 billion competitive grant for commercial agriculture.

The funding, provided by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), was awarded after a thorough national evaluation that examined institutional capacity, innovation, and readiness for large-scale agricultural projects.

KASU stood out for its strong focus on agricultural entrepreneurship, modern facilities, and a culture that encourages innovation, efficiency, and collaboration with the private sector.

Professor Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, Vice Chancellor of KASU, expressed deep gratitude for the achievement, describing it as evidence of the university’s ongoing reforms.

“This success is for KASU and for the people of Kaduna State,” he said. “It shows that embracing innovation, accountability, and forward-thinking practices leads to real results.”

Professor Musa praised the Faculty of Agriculture’s Dean, Dr. Maharazu Ibrahim Kubau, for transforming the faculty into a model of modern agricultural practice.

Under his leadership, outdated systems were replaced with structures that prioritize efficiency, innovation, and measurable impact.

The Vice Chancellor also acknowledged Governor Uba Sani for his support of education and agriculture, highlighting the positive effect of his leadership on the state’s growth.

The grant will be used to expand KASU’s commercial agricultural programs, create agribusiness incubation hubs, and strengthen research partnerships with industry.

These initiatives aim to boost food security, generate employment for youth, and promote sustainable economic development.

KASU remains committed to leading in higher education, driven by reform, innovation, and national impac
