Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to partnering with the Brazilian government to boost agricultural and livestock development in the state.

The governor made this known on Monday while receiving a Brazilian delegation led by the country’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Mr. Cleber Oleviera, during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.

Commending Brazil’s remarkable transformation in agriculture, Governor Idris described the South American nation as a model of what sustained investment in the sector can achieve.

“Kebbi is proud to be the rice capital of Africa, and our agricultural exploits continue to attract attention from across the continent.

“We are determined to learn from Brazil’s success and deepen our strides in agriculture and livestock production,” he said.

He highlighted that several delegations from other African countries have visited Kebbi to study its rice farming initiatives, with the aim of replicating its success stories in their home countries.

In response, Mr. Oleviera said the Brazilian delegation was in Kebbi on the directive of the Federal Government of Brazil to explore collaboration opportunities and strengthen ties in agricultural and livestock sectors.

“Brazil is ready to partner with Kebbi State for mutual growth. We are impressed with the transformative efforts of Governor Idris, especially in agricultural investment,” Oleviera stated.

Mr. Tope Kolade, Special Adviser to the President on Economic Matters in the Office of the Vice President, lauded the Kebbi State Government for prioritising agriculture, describing it as a key pillar of sustainable economic development.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Tropical General Investment Group, Mr. Faruk Gumel, commended the governor for his strategic focus, noting that Brazil’s agricultural transformation was achieved in just two decades—making it an ideal template for Nigeria to emulate.

He added that the Federal Government recognises Kebbi’s leadership in agricultural and livestock development, positioning it as a natural partner for Brazil in fostering sector-wide growth.
