In a significant step toward combating the spread of anthrax, the Kogi Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in partnership with the State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), has vaccinated over 200,000 livestock across the state.
Dr. Olufemi Bolarin, the State Project Coordinator for L-PRES, revealed this on Sunday during a visit to one of the vaccination centers in Lokoja.
Bolarin highlighted the progress of the campaign, noting that 540,000 doses of Anthrax Spore Vaccines have been allocated to protect cattle, sheep, and goats.
“This vaccination effort is essential in controlling the spread of anthrax and ensuring the health and productivity of livestock throughout Kogi State,” Bolarin stated.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting farmers’ livelihoods by prioritizing animal health.
The vaccination campaign, which began on October 14, is scheduled to conclude on November 8. Livestock farmers across the state are encouraged to bring their animals forward for vaccination to ensure comprehensive coverage and maximum impact.
