NAGS-AP:  Adamawa, FG Partner to Empower 2m Farmers

The Adamawa Government has partnered with the Federal Government to empower 2,000,000 farmers through the National Agriculture Growth Scheme and Agric-pocket (NAGS- AP) initiative of President Bola Tinubu.

Prof. David Jatau, Adamawa Commissioner for Agriculture disclosed this to newsmen in Yola on Sunday.

He said that the Tinubu’s initiative was in line with Gov. Umar Fintiri’s determination to invest in Agriculture to improve food security and employment opportunities toward improving the living standards of people in the state.

According to him, currently, enumerators were in the field registering farmers right from local governments, wards down to unit levels.

Jatau said the governor had already directed the 21 council chairmen to provide 300 hectares of land each, totaling 6,300 hectares.

He said the land would be allocated to 6,300 across the state and be provided with all farm inputs including land preparation for them to cultivate.

“At the end of the harvest, those who cultivate the farms will own the produce. The aim is to fight youth restiveness and unemployment as well as to improve food security for having available food”, he added.

The commissioner noted that each LGA again would provide one hectare to be used as a model farm for the training of 100 youth in each LGA on climate smart agriculture.

“That is farm management on how to use improved seed and application of Agrochemicals and after they will be provided with incentives to go and continue in their respective communities.

“For this Gov. Fintiri has already engaged the service of consultants and plans to employ more extension workers for more awareness on modern farming at the grassroots” he said.
