The Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has flagged off the harvest of the state’s government-owned rice farm, a 10,000-hectare project located in Jangwa, Awe Local Government Area.

This initiative, which is part of the state’s broader strategy to enhance food security, was launched at the start of the year’s cropping season.

Governor Sule who visited the farm on Thursday to witness the initial phase of harvesting, where three combined harvesters began processing the rice, highlighted that the project is designed to operate on a biannual schedule, producing two harvests each year.

In discussions with journalists, Governor Sule underscored the state’s commitment to leading by example in agriculture.

“If, in two days, the three combined harvesters covered only 14 hectares, then additional harvesters are essential to complete the process efficiently,” he noted.

He further emphasized Nasarawa’s agricultural potential, citing the state’s reputation for solid minerals and the need for government leadership in agribusiness.

“To contribute to the national food security agenda, Nasarawa State is demonstrating the kind of agricultural output possible through structured government initiatives,” he added.

The current harvest season began on October 23, 2024, positioning Nasarawa as a key contributor to Nigeria’s food security drive.
