Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has officially launched the distribution of farm inputs to 10,000 farmers and allocated 23 tractors to the 13 local government and development areas in the state.

The governor who spoke at the Government House in Lafia on Saturday highlighted his administration’s commitment to transforming agriculture in the state by acquiring 10,000 hectares of land in Jangwa (Awe LGA) and Agwatashi (Obi LGA) for the cultivation of rice, maize, and sesame. Additionally, 1,500 of the farm inputs will be dedicated to livestock farmers to support their growth.

“The Nasarawa State COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (N-CARES) initiative will provide 8,500 units of 4kg improved maize seeds, fertilizer, and herbicides to conventional farmers. Livestock farmers will receive improved cattle feed, mineral salt, and dewormers to enhance food security.”

Governor Sule emphasized the state’s goal to transition from peasant to mechanized agriculture, stating, “The government has procured tractors to be used for farming across these areas and other parts of the state to achieve this transition and improve production.”

He further announced, “I’m pleased to inform you that one tractor will be allocated to each of the 13 LGAs to ease cultivation and boost production. This initiative is part of our efforts to mitigate food insecurity in the state and the country at large.”

Governor Sule concluded by reaffirming the government’s belief in Nasarawa State’s agricultural potential, noting its favorable climatic conditions and soil suitability for farming.
