In a recent visit to the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA), the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, highlighted the crucial role of the agency in realizing the Federal Government’s food security objectives.
During the visit, Minister Lawal commended the NBMA for its exceptional contributions to scientific research and efforts towards safeguarding the nation. He urged the agency to continue in that manner.
Encouraging the NBMA to extend its influence to other state governments, Lawal emphasized that collaboration with states would enhance awareness about biosafety, ensuring seamless nationwide implementation of the biosafety process.
The Minister stressed the need for punctuality, teamwork, and collaboration among staff for more effective and productive outcomes.
In her presentation, Dr. Agnes Yemisi Asagbra, the Director General/CEO of NBMA, underscored the agency’s impact on safeguarding human health, plants, animals, and the environment.
She further emphasized that the agency has provided an enabling environment for indigenous and foreign scientists to practice modern biotechnology under a robust legal framework.
Dr. Asagbra reiterated NBMA’s commitment to ensuring the safe application of modern biotechnology, a crucial element in achieving food security in Nigeria.
