The National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA) has entered into a strategic partnership with Dar Al-Halal Farm to establish a modern meat hub in Nigeria.
This collaboration is expected to revolutionize the country’s meat production sector, aiming to meet local demand while boosting exports of premium-quality meat.
The formal agreement was signed by Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha, Director General of NBRDA, and Alhaji Muhammadu Dikko Ladan, the CEO of Dar Al-Halal Farm, at a ceremony that highlighted the shared vision of both parties to advance the nation’s agricultural biotechnology sector.
Under the terms of the agreement, NBRDA will provide a range of technical services. These include conducting research on animal breeding using modern biotechnological methods, improving meat quality and safety, and developing new ways to detect and control foodborne pathogens through advanced molecular techniques.
In addition, the agency will offer support in ensuring regulatory compliance, facilitating quality assurance, and strengthening disease prevention measures.
Dar Al-Halal Farm, on the other hand, will spearhead the development of the meat hub. Their role involves managing the Halal Meat Hub project, ensuring adherence to all relevant regulations, and providing resources to refurbish and equip laboratories at NBRDA’s facilities.
During the signing ceremony, Prof. Mustapha stressed the importance of this partnership as a key step towards improving Nigeria’s livestock industry.
He also highlighted how the collaboration will contribute to the nation’s economic growth while improving the livelihoods of local farmers and producers.
“The fusion of biotechnology with sustainable practices in this venture will not only boost livestock production but also ensure that we have access to healthier and more reliable food sources,” he remarked.
In response, Alhaji Ladan expressed his gratitude to NBRDA for recognizing the potential of this partnership. He emphasized that the initiative would not only satisfy domestic demand but also strengthen Nigeria’s presence in the global meat export market.
“This project represents a major milestone in our efforts to enhance food security and elevate Nigeria’s position in the international meat trade,” Ladan said.
