As part of efforts to bolster the agricultural sector and stimulate economic growth, the Niger State Government has announced plans to establish a dedicated fruit market in Minna.
The initiative aims to enhance food production, generate employment opportunities, and reduce poverty across both urban and rural communities.
Governor Mohammed Bago made the revelation during a meeting with members of the Niger State Fruit Sellers Association at the Government House in Minna.
He emphasized that the new fruit market would serve as a driver of the state’s agricultural transformation agenda.
Governor Bago reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing the agricultural sector, which he described as a cornerstone of the state’s economic future.
He noted that the fruit market would help create new opportunities for local farmers, traders, and stakeholders in the agriculture value chain, while also strengthening food security across the region.
In a gesture of goodwill, the Fruit Sellers Association presented the Governor with 3,000 orange seedlings, which will be planted on his farm.
Governor Bago acknowledged the importance of the gift, noting that it would contribute significantly to both the state’s economic growth and its ongoing agricultural initiatives.
The Governor also urged citizens to embrace farming as a sustainable source of income, highlighting the vast opportunities within the agricultural sector for those willing to engage in farming and agribusiness.
Salisu Muhd, Chairman of the Niger State Fruit Sellers Association, expressed appreciation for the Governor’s unwavering support, particularly in the areas of agricultural mechanization and support for local fruit vendors.
He revealed that the association’s members were eager to visit the Governor’s farm to assist with the planting of the orange seedlings, signaling their strong commitment to collaborating on projects that drive agricultural development.
