Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State recently visited the headquarters of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Ibadan to explore opportunities for collaboration in agriculture and technology adoption.
This visit aimed to strengthen the partnership between the state government and IITA, with a focus on improving agricultural productivity, ensuring food security, and promoting sustainable farming practices in Niger State.
During his visit, Governor Bago engaged in discussions with IITA’s Director General, Dr. Simeon Ehui, and a team of top scientists. The talks centered on how Niger State could benefit from IITA’s research and expertise to drive agricultural transformation.
As part of the engagement, IITA presented some of its advanced agricultural technologies, including innovations in crop improvement, breeding, mechanization, and seed systems. Governor Bago expressed keen interest in adopting these solutions to enhance food production, improve farmers’ livelihoods, and drive economic growth in the state.
