Niger Govt Purchases Farm Equipment Ahead of Wet Season Farming

The Niger State Government has disclosed purchase of additional  2,000 different farm equipment ahead of wet season farming in the state.

In a significant move to enhance agricultural productivity and promote national food security, the state government joined forces with the Origin Group, a diversified agriculture value chain group to leverage agricultural equipment and expertise to bolster agricultural activities in the state.

According to Bologi Ibrahim, the spokesperson for Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State, the partnership was unveiled through a statement issued on Wednesday.

“Origin Group’s specialized agro support program, known as the Total Agricultural Support Programme (TASP), in collaboration with Campo Company of Brazil, will drive the initiative.”

As part of the partnership, the Niger State Government has received a substantial delivery of agricultural equipment. This includes 500 large-capacity tractors, 500 harvesters of varying capacities, and 1000 different agricultural and irrigation equipment and farm implements. These resources will significantly enhance agricultural operations across the state.

The program’s primary objective is to support the establishment of 50,000 hectares of fully irrigated food production hubs in Niger State. By doing so, the initiative aims to escalate food production, stimulate wealth creation, and generate employment opportunities for the state’s burgeoning population.

One of the key benefits of this landmark initiative is the eradication of drudgery associated with agricultural activities, along with a substantial reduction in post-harvest losses and revenue losses experienced by farmers. The administration of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago is steadfast in its commitment to revolutionizing the agricultural sector in Niger State and positioning it as the agricultural hub of Nigeria.

This strategic partnership between the Niger State Government and Origin Group underscores a concerted effort to harness agricultural potential, drive economic growth, and ensure food security for the people of Niger State and beyond.
