In a move to encourage agricultural growth and strengthen community ties, the 1 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Gusau has provided free fertiliser to 100 farmers in Zamfara State.
The support was given to selected farmers from several villages in Tsafe Local Government Area.
Beneficiaries came from communities including Gidan-Giye, Magazu, Kucheri, Feginbaza and Bilbis.
The Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Mustapha Jimoh, was represented at the event by Lieutenant Colonel Isah Galadima.
He explained that the fertiliser distribution was part of a broader effort by the Army to engage with communities in peaceful and constructive ways.
Galadima noted that security efforts are not limited to the use of force.
He said the Army also focuses on building relationships by supporting education, healthcare, food supply and agriculture in host communities.
The initiative reflects the priorities of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, who has emphasised the importance of promoting peace alongside regular security duties.
The Emir of Tsafe, Alhaji Muhammad Bawa, was represented at the event by Senior District Head Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu.
He welcomed the Army’s intervention, noting that many farmers had been struggling to access fertiliser this year due to its limited availability.
The Vice Chairman of Tsafe Local Government, Sani Abdullahi, also attended the event.
He gave assurances that local authorities would follow up to ensure that the fertiliser is used properly and only by the intended beneficiaries.
One of the recipients, Malam Abubakar Marafa, thanked the Army on behalf of the farmers. He said the support came at a time when many people could not afford fertiliser due to rising prices.
He added that the farmers would use it carefully to improve their yields and expressed hopes for continued success in the Army’s efforts.
Officials reminded farmers not to sell or divert the fertiliser and encouraged them to apply it as needed on their farms.
