NWAPDI Assures Nigerians of Food Price Stabilization in 2025

by AgroNigeria

The Nigerian Women for Agricultural Progressive and Development Initiative (NWAPDI) has disclosed that its efforts helped prevent a sharp rise in food prices across Nigeria in 2024, while assuring citizens of further price stabilization in 2025.

This was revealed by the National Coordinator of NWAPDI, Farmer Omolara Svensson, during an interview with newsmen in Lagos. Svensson attributed the achievement to the collective efforts and unity of women in the agricultural sector.

Looking ahead to 2025, Svensson highlighted the group’s plan to leverage technology in advancing agriculture, stating that work is underway on a digital application designed to facilitate real-time farming processes such as crop monitoring and traceability.

Applauding the current administration for recognizing food insecurity as a pressing national issue, she noted that such acknowledgment has motivated stakeholders to intensify efforts toward boosting food production.

Svensson further expressed optimism about the future of Nigerian agriculture, emphasizing the need for financial inclusion, adequate infrastructure, and training for women farmers.

She reiterated NWAPDI’s commitment to ensuring that no child is left on the streets hawking and no youth remains unemployed.

“Without the contributions of women, who make up almost 90 percent of the agricultural workforce, food prices would have been significantly higher in 2024,” Svensson stated.

“In 2025, we are determined to normalize food prices and elevate the Nigerian agricultural sector to global standards by embracing technology.”

According to her, NWAPDI’s vision is to build a Nigeria where agriculture significantly drives the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), ensuring that women farmers receive proper support in areas such as financing, training, and working conditions.

“Our ultimate goal is to create a nation where every Nigerian can harness the immense potential in agriculture for sustainable wealth, where no child is forced into street hawking, and where unemployment becomes a thing of the past,” Svensson added.
