The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a conducive environment for the growth of the cashew industry in the state, seeking to work closely with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC)  for the cashew industry to flourish.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya emphasized the government’s intention to collaborate with the NEPC and other relevant stakeholders.

The statement followed a one-day intervention program and distribution of cashew seedlings organized by NEPC in partnership with the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment. The event, held at the Obas’ Complex in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, aimed to enhance the state’s comparative advantage in cashew production and strengthen the implementation of the One State, One Product initiative under the State Committee on Export Promotion.

Onasanya underscored the importance of the cashew industry in elevating the state’s role in Nigeria’s export market. He stressed the potential of the industry to boost the state’s revenue, generate jobs, and support sustainable development in rural areas.

He pointed to the intervention program as an opportunity to address major issues facing cashew farmers, such as capacity building, infrastructure, technology use, and market access. Onasanya called on all stakeholders to stay committed and work together to foster the growth of a strong and sustainable cashew industry.

He expressed confidence that a flourishing cashew sector would benefit not just the farmers and exporters but also contribute to the economic progress of Ogun State and Nigeria.

In his remarks, the host commissioner, Mr. Adebola Sofela, emphasized the significance of cashew production in Ogun State’s agricultural landscape and its contribution to economic well-being. He highlighted the industry’s potential to create jobs, provide livelihoods, and promote prosperity.

NEPC Executive Director, Nonye Ayeni, represented by Mrs. Evelyn Obidike, reiterated the council’s commitment to enhancing cashew production through the One State, One Product initiative.

In a goodwill message, the Akarigbo of Remo Land, HRM Babatunde Ajayi, represented by Elemunren of Emuren HRH, Adesegun Alowole, commended the state government for its collaboration with NEPC to boost cashew production. He called for further interventions to support farmers in all local government areas.

The State Coordinator of NEPC, Mrs. Francisca Odega, welcomed the participants and underscored the event’s importance in connecting the council’s initiatives with real-world application. She highlighted the distribution of improved cashew breeds as a key step to enhancing export potential and increasing the value of the product.
