The Ogun State Government says its ongoing tree-planting programme across forest reserves is helping to deny criminals safe haven, making the areas less accessible to kidnappers, militants and land grabbers.
The Commissioner for Forestry, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun, disclosed this during a prayer session organised for staff of the Ministry of Forestry in Abeokuta.
He said the initiative has significantly reduced criminal activity in the forests, effectively forcing illegal occupants out.
Oludotun urged ministry staff to remain optimistic and work together, stressing that the ministry’s ambitious targets for the year can only be achieved through teamwork and a positive attitude.
He added that the government has provided critical support, including solar lighting and walkie-talkies, to improve field operations and security.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Adekunle Oyesanwen, reminded staff to uphold due process, directing that all official communications should follow established administrative channels.
Meanwhile, Governor Dapo Abiodun has congratulated the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, on her 60th birthday, describing her as a committed and dependable partner in governance.
In a goodwill message, the governor praised Salako-Oyedele’s contributions to the success of his “Building Our Future Together” agenda, noting her distinguished record as an engineer, administrator and public servant.
He said her leadership continues to inspire women, young professionals and the wider Ogun community.
“Your support, loyalty and collaborative spirit have strengthened our government and enabled us to deliver meaningful results for our people,” Abiodun said, wishing her good health, renewed energy and many more years of impactful service.
