Polaris Bank, NCF Launch Tree-planting Campaign in Rivers to Support Environmental Sustainability

by AgroNigeria

Polaris Bank, in collaboration with the Nigeria Conservation Foundation (NCF), has launched a tree-planting campaign in Rivers State as part of a broader effort to support environmental sustainability and combat carbon emissions.

The initiative took place at Bodo City Girls Secondary School, located in Gokana Local Government Area.

This project forms part of the bank’s wider commitment to sustainable environmental practices.

Representing Polaris Bank at the event, Mr. Ejike Aroh, Business Development Manager of the Garrison Branch, spoke on behalf of the Divisional Head for South-South, Mr. Raphael Abiaziem.

He emphasized that the initiative reflects the bank’s dedication to its sustainability goals and supports the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.

Abiazem said: “This effort goes beyond simply planting trees. It is about protecting our natural environment, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and promoting awareness about climate action.

“By introducing fruit-bearing and economically valuable trees, we aim to help communities build resilience, enhance food availability, and rehabilitate damaged ecosystems.”

Mr. Alex Jorbedom, NCF Field Officer, further explained the long-term benefits of planting fruit trees.

He noted that, aside from producing edible fruits, the trees will offer shade, act as natural barriers against wind, and contribute to the wellbeing of students and residents.

“Our goal is to plant 500 trees at this school, including species such as avocado and native pear.

“Each tree has been protected with mesh to ensure survival, and we plan to return for follow-up visits to educate students on their importance and encourage active care,” Jorbedom said.
