In a bid to alleviate the suffering of indigent women in Abia State, the government, in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), has distributed bags of rice and cartons of tomatoes to 1,000 beneficiaries.
The event, held in Umuahia, the state capital, was attended by the wife of the governor, Precillia Otti, who praised the wife of the president, Oluremi Tinubu, for her efforts in improving the welfare of women and families nationwide.
“The Renewed Hope Initiative has made significant efforts towards making life better and easier for women and families in the country,” Otti said. “Recently, Her Excellency Oluremi Tinubu provided financial grants to 1,000 Abia women petty traders to expand and improve their businesses, support their families, and enhance our local economies. I am happy to announce that some have started receiving credit alerts.”
Otti encouraged the beneficiaries to utilize the opportunity to fulfill their economic dreams, assuring those yet to benefit that more initiatives were on the way.
She also commended Erisco Foods for providing the tomatoes and acknowledged the government’s efforts to overcome the current hardships facing the people.
Other speakers, including the state’s commissioner for women affairs, Maureen Ahukwa, and the special assistant to the governor on poverty alleviation and vulnerable groups, Ifeoma Thomas, praised the initiative and the benefactors.
The chairpersons of various associations, including Ihuoma Okoro, Lizzy Uka, and Lara Adebayo, also expressed gratitude for the palliatives.
