The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn-Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, has called on citizens to actively plant, nurture, and protect trees to promote a greener and more resilient Borno State.
He made this appeal on Wednesday while receiving Usman Aliyu, Director-General of the Borno State Agency for the Great Green Wall (BOAFGGW), at his palace in Maiduguri during a courtesy visit.
As part of efforts to combat climate change, desertification, and global warming, the Shehu officially launched a statewide tree-planting campaign across all emirate councils.
He stressed the importance of collective action in preserving the environment, urging communities to take responsibility by planting and safeguarding trees within their surroundings.
The BOAFGGW Director-General, Usman Aliyu, expressed appreciation for the Shehu’s royal endorsement and unwavering support for environmental conservation.
To mark the launch of the initiative, a Java plum tree was planted within the Shehu’s palace as a symbolic gesture.
Aliyu further explained that the campaign aims to mobilize communities across Borno State in the fight against desertification and environmental degradation.
