‘Support Establishment of Grazing Reserves as Solution to Ongoing Tensions Between Farmers, Herders’ –  Miyetti Allah Tells Govs

by AgroNigeria

At a peace summit held in Iseyin, Oyo State, leaders of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani group have called on Nigerian governors to support the establishment of grazing reserves as a practical solution to ongoing tensions between farmers and herders.

Speaking at the event, which also marked the inauguration of new state executives for the Southwest region, the group’s national president, Dr Bello Bodejo, emphasized the economic contribution of the Fulani to the country.

He said that by creating grazing reserves, governments would be helping to prevent avoidable conflicts in rural communities.

Bodejo stressed that the Fulani are peaceful and often unfairly blamed for incidents they have no connection to.

He urged for more understanding from the public and authorities when it comes to addressing security challenges involving herders.

Engineer Saleh Alhassan, the group’s secretary, highlighted the importance of dialogue and cooperation between farmers and herders.

He noted that both groups play critical roles in food production and national stability.

Alhassan encouraged Nigerians to move beyond blame and suspicion.

He said that by working together and listening to each other, the country could build stronger relationships and improve social and economic outcomes.

According to him, partnerships between herders and farmers, when managed properly, can contribute significantly to food security and peaceful coexistence.

He called on citizens to reject divisive tendencies and support initiatives that promote unity and development.
