The Taraba State House of Assembly has officially passed a bill establishing the Taraba State University of Tropical Agriculture, Science and Technology, and Climate Action.
The university is set to be located on the Mambila Plateau in Sardauna Local Government Area. Its passage followed a successful third reading during a plenary session.
The bill progressed after a motion was moved by the Deputy Majority Leader, Nuhu Akila Rantiyo. After careful review, it received unanimous approval from the lawmakers. The Clerk of the House, Salmuna Amos Sani, then read the bill’s long title for the third time.
Presiding over the session, Deputy Speaker Hamman Adama Abdullah praised members for their input and instructed the Clerk to prepare a clean version of the bill for forwarding to the Executive Governor for assent.
Meanwhile, the House also considered the Taraba State Landed Properties Protection Bill, 2025, which passed its second reading.
The motion for the second reading was initiated by Nuhu Akila Rantiyo and supported by Uba Mai Riga.
Presenting the bill, Tanko Yusuf Abubakar pointed to the increasing incidents of unlawful land encroachments, violent takeovers, and fraudulent property dealings as the driving factors behind the proposal. He explained that the bill aims to curb illegal land acquisitions and uphold property rights throughout the state.
Backing the proposal, Dinkomiya Nulamunga Bilbonga, who represents the Donga constituency, emphasized that the bill would reinforce the government’s efforts to protect land and property ownership.
After deliberations, the House voted in favor of the motion, allowing the bill to proceed to its second reading.
Subsequently, the Deputy Speaker directed that the bill be forwarded to the House Committee on Transport, Land, and Disaster Management for a public hearing and further legislative review.
