President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Attahiru Jega, the former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as his new Presidential Adviser and Coordinator of Presidential Livestock Reforms.

This significant announcement was made by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Friday via his verified X account.

The appointment is seen as a move to advance the livestock sector and strengthen national development efforts. Professor Jega, who previously served as the vice chancellor of Bayero University, co-chaired the Presidential Livestock Committee alongside President Tinubu.

The committee made comprehensive recommendations aimed at fostering sustainable reforms in the livestock sector, including the creation of the Livestock Ministry, which now has an appointed minister.

At 68, Jega is an esteemed member of the International Elections Advisory Council and serves as the pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano State. He led INEC from 2010 to 2015, overseeing crucial electoral reforms during his tenure.

In his new role, Jega’s expertise is expected to reinforce the efforts of the Presidential Livestock Committee and ensure the continued momentum of the ongoing reforms.
