In a show of international solidarity, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has dispatched an aircraft carrying 50 tons of food supplies to Nigeria to support communities devastated by severe flooding.
The shipment, coordinated by the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, underscores the country’s commitment to global humanitarian efforts, particularly in times of crisis.
The aid package, consisting of essential food items such as rice, flour, and canned goods, is intended to provide immediate relief to families who have lost their homes and livelihoods.
The floods, caused by heavy rainfall, have wreaked havoc across multiple regions of Nigeria, damaging infrastructure and displacing thousands of people. Key agricultural areas have been affected, leading to food shortages and an urgent need for humanitarian assistance.
Speaking on the initiative, UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Salem Al Shamsi, emphasized the UAE’s dedication to supporting nations in times of disaster.
“This aid reflects the UAE’s commitment to reinforcing humanitarian cooperation with the international community. It aims to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the floods in Nigeria and provide them with the essential resources to navigate this challenging period,” Al Shamsi stated.
The UAE’s contribution adds to its long-standing tradition of providing humanitarian aid to countries in crisis, solidifying its role as a global leader in disaster relief and emergency response. While the Nigerian government, in collaboration with international organizations, has been working tirelessly to manage relief efforts, the scale of the disaster has exceeded local capacity.
