WHO Underscores Importance Of Public Awareness, Collaboration to Eliminate Rabies

The World Health Organization (WHO) has reiterated the importance of raising public awareness and fostering collaboration across sectors to eliminate rabies.

Speaking at an event to mark World Rabies Day, in Abuja, WHO Cluster Lead for Disease Prevention and Control, Dr. Mya Ngom, emphasized WHO’s commitment to efforts aimed at preventing and controlling rabies in Nigeria. 

According to her, the rabies disease is 100 percent preventable, adding that recent progress has been made in rabies prevention in Nigeria, but more work still needs to be done. 

“We are also aware that several developments have been reached to prevent and control rabies in Nigeria. 

“We would like to continue to support this, and we would like to reaffirm that commitment here. 

“This rabies is 100% preventable, and no one should die from disease,” Dr. Ngom emphasized.
