In a significant move to enhance food production, the 16 local governments in Kwara State have acquired 32 tractors equipped with essential farming implements, including ploughs, ridges, harrows, and tractor-trailers.
These tractors, unveiled in Ilorin, the state capital, are expected to play a crucial role in supporting farmers at the grassroots level.
During the unveiling ceremony, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Community Development, Abubakar Bata, emphasized the importance of making these tractors accessible to local farmers.
He highlighted the positive impact of improved allocation on the local councils’ ability to make such a purchase, reflecting their commitment to agricultural development.
Expressing his satisfaction with the initiative, Mr. Bata stated, “The decision of the local councils to purchase these tractors and the many accessories is a thoughtful one, and I believe it goes to corroborate the position of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq that no one takes local council funds.”
He further urged the local councils to ensure the tractors are utilized effectively to stimulate agricultural activities in their areas, aligning with the state’s broader efforts to invest in and support the agricultural sector.
This initiative is seen as a crucial step towards complementing the state government’s extensive investments in agriculture and driving economic growth through enhanced food production.
