Over 2,000 youths and women farmers across seven local government areas in the Bauchi South senatorial district have received high-quality hybrid seedlings to support their dry season farming efforts.
Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing the district, initiated this agricultural transformation program to boost food production, promote self-reliance, and reduce unemployment among the youth and women in the region.
During the distribution ceremony held yesterday in Bauchi, Senator Umar’s Legislative Aide, Hon. Maijama’a Mato, distributed the seedlings on behalf of the senator, encouraging beneficiaries to make the best use of this opportunity to improve their livelihoods and achieve self-sufficiency.
The General Manager of the Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute, Ilorin, Mr. Abdullatif Nuruddeen, explained that the seedlings included maize, rice, sorghum, soybeans, and ordinary beans of high quality. Each of the five different seedlings consisted of 420 bags, totaling 2,100 bags for the 2,000 beneficiaries.
Nuruddeen cautioned the beneficiaries against selling the seedlings and urged them to focus on agricultural output for the mass production of commodities for the benefit of citizens.
Hassan Gaji, another aide of the senator, revealed that each of the 2,000 beneficiaries would receive a variety of 10 bags. He called on the beneficiaries and constituents at large to continue praying for the senator to achieve his set objectives.
A beneficiary of the program, Haruna Shu’aibu Burwat, expressed gratitude for the support and assured that the seedlings would be used effectively to enhance agricultural production.
In addition to the hybrid seedlings, each beneficiary was also provided with a certain amount of cash to facilitate farming activities. This support aims to empower farmers and contribute to the economic development of the region.
