The Kano State Government has flagged off the distribution of 79,200 bags of fertiliser to farmers across all 44 local government areas, as part of efforts to enhance food production and secure livelihoods during the 2025 wet season.

Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf launched the exercise on Sunday at the Al-Yuma Fertiliser Plant in Madobi Local Government Area, where he announced that the fertiliser would be sold to farmers at a 50 percent discount to ease input costs and encourage higher yields.

According to a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, three trucks of fertilizer each carrying 600 bags were allocated to every local government area, underscoring the administration’s commitment to revitalizing agriculture and improving food security.

“We gathered here today not just to distribute bags of fertiliser, but to plant the seeds of self-reliance, economic prosperity, and collective dignity,” Governor Yusuf said at the flag-off ceremony.

Highlighting his administration’s efforts to boost agricultural productivity, Yusuf noted that over the past two years, Kano has expanded access to farmland and irrigation facilities, rehabilitated major irrigation schemes, and awarded new projects across 11 local government areas, bringing more than 1,250 hectares under development.

He also revealed that construction of the Dansoshiya Dam in Kiru Local Government Area was ongoing, describing it as “a landmark in our quest for year-round farming.”

Governor Yusuf expressed optimism that the subsidised fertiliser would not only increase food production but also stimulate economic growth and guarantee food security across Kano State.
