The Growth and Development of Northern Nigeria (GDNN) has appealed to the Federal Government to rename the Ministry of Livestock Development to Ministry for Livestock and Dairy Development, citing the need for a more comprehensive approach to livestock development.
Mallam Haruna Buhari, Acting Secretary of the Public Policy Advocacy Unit of GDNN, commended the government’s efforts in creating the Ministry of Livestock Development but noted that it fell short of integrating dairy development.
“We welcome with anxiety and commend the Federal Government on the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development. We, however, note that it fell short of integrating dairy development to make it complete, comprehensive and most effective,” he said.
Buhari emphasized the importance of scaling up the ministry’s mandate to include dairy development, which would make it more effective in addressing the needs of the livestock industry.
