Taraba Monarch Tasks Traders on Lower Food Prices

by AgroNigeria

The Galadima Muri of the Muri Emirate and District Head of Jalingo, Alhaji Lamindo Abba Tukur, has implored farmers and traders in Taraba state to consider the deplorable condition of the state and reduce food prices.

Alhaji Tukur made this appeal on Saturday during his 40th anniversary on the throne as Galadima in Jalingo, where he expressed concern that the continuous rise in food prices was worsening economic hardships for indigent people and urged for relief.

The monarch said the devaluation of the Naira has created a dire situation for the poor, which he described as a looming calamity.

He said: “I appeal to farmers and traders to consider the struggles of the poor and lower food prices. The daily surge in food costs is worsening economic difficulties. Those in control of pricing must take this into account.

“The devaluation of the Naira against food prices is a terrible warning sign. If not addressed, it will further devastate the poor.”

He commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his efforts in combating insecurity in Taraba, describing the progress as remarkable in Nigeria’s broader fight against insecurity.

“My decision to celebrate 40 years on the throne today is because of Governor Kefas’ determined fight against insecurity in Taraba. His efforts against banditry have restored peace, allowing people to access their livelihoods again.

“As a traditional ruler, I find no joy when my people cannot access their farms and businesses due to insecurity. I sincerely commend Governor Kefas for his outstanding efforts in restoring peace, which is gradually reviving the lives of many,” he added.

In his own remarks, Alhaji Kabiru Mararafa, chairman of the occasion, and the Lamdo Bakundi, His Royal Highness Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad Gidado Misa, praised the Galadima’s leadership.

They described him as a model traditional ruler whose qualities and contributions serve as a reference point for the institution’s development in Nigeria.
