Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has launched a Ramadan Food Basket program aimed at supporting 30,000 vulnerable households across the state.
The program, which includes the distribution of food items such as rice and condiments worth N2 billion, targets internally displaced persons (IDPs), civil servants, and other disadvantaged groups.
According to Governor Buni, “Under the Ramadan Food Basket programme, the government has procured food items. for distribution to 30, 000 vulnerable households, internally displaced persons (IDPs), 1,500 teachers and junior staff. 500 Resident Doctors, flood victims, farmers affected by poor harvests, and other disadvantaged persons in the society”.
The governor emphasized that the program is designed to ease the burden of food insecurity and provide essential support to families struggling to meet their daily nutritional needs.
He also noted that the government has increased the number of feeding centers from 85 to 102 this year, with additional locations situated mostly in health institutions.
Governor Buni reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting the welfare of the people of Yobe State, beyond seasonal interventions.
He cited the government’s response to the 2024 floods, which included emergency relief and support for affected communities.
The governor also launched two major initiatives in November 2024, including the N1.4 billion Support for 25,500 Flood Victims and Vulnerable Groups, and the ₦1 billion Empowerment for 10,000 Small Business Owners.
In his remarks, Governor Buni called on society to support the less privileged, especially during the sacred period of Ramadan.
“We should remain committed to the values of kindness, generosity, and solidarity that define us as a people,” he emphasized.
