‘Ekiti Invested Over N50bn to Strengthen Agribusiness in 3 Years’ – Gov Oyebanji

by AgroNigeria

As part of efforts to transform Ekiti State into a leading food production hub, Governor Biodun Oyebanji has revealed that his administration has invested over N50 billion into agribusiness over the past three years.

This financial commitment is part of his vision to create a sustainable food supply chain that guarantees food security, while also making food more affordable for the state’s residents.

Governor Oyebanji made these remarks during the official launch of two groundbreaking projects: the Ounje Ekiti Retail Outlet and the Ilu Eye Aggregation Hub, both located in Ado-Ekiti.

The Ilu Eye Aggregation Hub, a registered enterprise, plays a crucial role in sourcing and storing food products directly from local farmers. Meanwhile, the Ounje Ekiti Retail Outlet will serve as a point of sale, offering these same food items to the public at reduced prices.

Addressing attendees at the event, Governor Oyebanji reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to facilitating a seamless and efficient distribution network for food throughout the year.

According to him, his government aims to meet the directive of President Bola Tinubu to eradicate hunger and poverty by prioritizing the availability of locally grown food items.

The governor highlighted the importance of these initiatives as steps in addressing persistent challenges within the agricultural sector.

He added that the focus is on reducing food wastage, enhancing storage systems, and curbing market inefficiencies to ensure food security.

This initiative is aligned with the recommendations of the Ekiti State Food Security Committee, which was established to improve local food production and ensure greater availability of food across the state.

According to Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade, the state’s Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, the two projects mark a new era for Ekiti’s agricultural development.

Boluwade emphasized that they would provide farmers with reliable markets for their produce, thereby boosting local agricultural output.

In his remarks, Mr. Akintunde Oyebode, the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, also lauded the governor’s commitment to advancing the agricultural sector.

He commended the state’s efforts to make food more accessible and affordable for its citizens, thereby contributing to the overall economic well-being of Ekiti.
