Delta State Head of Service, Dr. Mininim Oseji, has distributed tomato and pepper seedlings to Permanent Secretaries and other staff across key government offices as part of a new homestead farming initiative for civil servants.
Speaking in Asaba, Oseji explained that the programme was designed to strengthen food security, promote agricultural practices, and provide civil servants with an additional source of income.
She emphasized that the effort would not only support the state’s food production capacity but also reduce reliance on external supplies.
“This initiative is aimed at fostering self-sufficiency and sustainable food production while creating opportunities for civil servants to earn extra income,” she noted.
Oseji added that the scheme would cultivate a culture of self-reliance among government workers by encouraging them to grow their own food. She also underscored that the programme aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s ‘MORE Agenda’, which prioritizes economic growth and long-term sustainability.
In his response, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Head of Service, Mr. Maxwell Ause, applauded the project, assuring that it would inspire civil servants to actively engage in agriculture.
