Enugu Govt Partners Firms to Revive Agro-Industrial Project

by AgroNigeria

As part of efforts to revitalize agriculture in Enugu State, the government has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tribu Ltd. and the Songhai Regional Centre to advance the Songhai Enugu Agro Industrial project.

This partnership aims to enhance food production and create job opportunities for the state’s youth.

Governor Peter Mbah, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, explained that the project, which was launched in 2013, had remained incomplete and abandoned for years. He emphasized that the current administration is focused on rehabilitating neglected assets, and the collaboration with Tribu Ltd. and the Songhai Regional Centre marks a step forward in making the project fully operational.

“We have carefully crafted this MoU in close consultation with all relevant parties, including the Office of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, to ensure legal compliance and effective governance,” Mbah stated.

The governor added that the state would offer a supportive environment, a clear land-use policy, and oversight to ensure the success of the project, which aligns with the state’s long-term agricultural and economic goals.

Under the agreement, Tribu Ltd. will take on the role of the project’s financier, providing the capital and resources required to bring the plan to fruition. Meanwhile, the Songhai Regional Centre will offer its expertise and provide training and advisory services to ensure best practices are followed across all aspects of farming and production.

One key feature of the initiative is the establishment of a 25-hectare training and incubation center designed to provide technical, leadership, and entrepreneurial skills to both youths and women in the region.

Mr. Patrick Ubru, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-industrialisation, noted that the project underscores the state’s commitment to achieving food security, fostering job creation, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Rev. Fr. Godfrey Nzamujo, the founder of the Songhai Regional Centre, expressed optimism about the project’s potential to transform the state’s agricultural landscape by leveraging the opportunities it offers.

In addition, Mr. Nnamdi Ozor, a representative of Tribu Ltd., highlighted that the project would help reduce the number of young people seeking opportunities abroad.

He also noted that it would contribute to reducing the country’s reliance on the importation of certain agricultural products.
