Jigawa Governor Unveils Vision for Agricultural Growth by 2030

by AgroNigeria

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has expressed confidence that by 2030, the state will be globally recognized for the high quality of its agricultural products.

Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from Agrighar India, led by Sowmini Sunkara, Namadi commended the results of a recent two-week Agrighar Scoping Study conducted across ten local government areas of the state.

He praised the thoroughness of the study, which he said aligns with the state’s vision for agricultural growth and development.

The study, which focused on key agricultural value chains such as rice, groundnuts, cassava, hibiscus, dairy, and fisheries, involved direct engagement with local farmers and stakeholders.

Namadi noted that the positive response from these groups has strengthened his belief in the potential of the partnership with Agrighar.

“This study is a true reflection of our vision,” Governor Namadi stated. “We are confident that with the level of commitment shown by Agrighar, we have found a partner who shares our goals. Our state is ready to take the next steps in implementing this transformative project.”

The collaboration will focus on creating sustainable agricultural practices, boosting local production, and increasing the competitiveness of Jigawa’s agricultural sector.

One of the major initiatives includes setting up agribusiness incubation clusters across critical local government areas to support youth and women entrepreneurs.

Another key aspect of the project will be the revival of non-functional processing centers in Jahun, Gidanara, and Kila Ward through public-private partnerships.

Additionally, the project aims to improve market access by connecting Jigawa producers to larger markets in Kano for key products such as sesame, hibiscus, rice, dairy, and fish. It will also introduce solar-powered processing systems and modern packaging solutions to enhance product quality.

Sowmini Sunkara, the team leader of Agrighar, shared her commitment to building a sustainable agribusiness ecosystem in Jigawa.

She emphasized that the objective is to position the state as a model for inclusive agricultural development in Nigeria, with a focus on empowering local farmers and stakeholders.
