The Yobe State Government has inaugurated the State Council on Nutrition 774, signalling its strong commitment to improving nutrition and public health across the state.
Governor Mai Mala Buni, who performed the inauguration in Damaturu, said the council would coordinate the implementation of the Nutrition 774 initiative in all local government areas.
He explained that the programme aims to make every community a centre for nutrition-driven action and sustainable health improvement.
During a visit by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Health, Mrs Uju Rochas-Anwukah, and her team, Governor Buni reiterated his administration’s readiness to work closely with the Federal Government to tackle malnutrition and promote food security.
The governor highlighted that Yobe had already integrated nutrition-sensitive projects into various sectors, including health, education, and social protection, while the Ministry of Women Affairs is implementing nutrition-related components under its skill acquisition and recovery programmes.
“Our government has put in place several initiatives to strengthen food security and promote economic growth through agriculture. These efforts have encouraged more citizens to participate in farming, which supports our collaboration with the Federal Government under the Nutrition 774 initiative,” he said.
He noted that through partnerships with organisations such as UNICEF, UNFPA, the World Bank, the World Food Programme, UNDP, and other development agencies, Yobe has expanded community-based nutrition services, improved maternal and child health, and increased access to life-saving interventions for vulnerable populations.
Governor Buni added that the visit by the presidential aide offers an opportunity to identify priority areas where federal support can complement the state’s efforts for greater impact at the grassroots level.
Mrs Rochas-Anwukah commended the governor for his achievements in agriculture and healthcare, describing him as a “silent achiever” whose leadership has advanced key sectors that directly influence nutritional outcomes.
She expressed confidence that the Nutrition 774 programme would achieve remarkable results in Yobe State.
