In response to the rise in insecurity across the nation, the government of Cross River State has withdrawn the authorization previously granted for the passage of cattle belonging to the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association.
The livestock were to be moved from Ebonyi State, through Cross River, en route to Cameroon.
The decision was made public in a statement released in Calabar by Emmanuel Anom, the Commissioner for Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries Development. He explained that the new directive replaces the earlier approval that had permitted the movement.
Anom noted that the state government has instructed security agencies to remain alert and ensure that no such movement of cattle is allowed across any part of Cross River territory.
He emphasized that the directive is binding on all security formations operating within the state.
The commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the administration to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that the cancellation takes immediate effect and is not subject to further clarification.
