Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has strengthened his administration’s push for agribusiness-driven growth with the expansion of the Adiye Irorun poultry empowerment programme, targeting increased participation among youths and women.
The state government is set to disburse over N15 million to beneficiaries in the second phase of the initiative, reinforcing efforts to boost local poultry production, create jobs and improve household incomes.
The cheque presentation, organised by the Ondo State Agribusiness Empowerment Centre, will take place at the Isuada Centre in Alagbaka, Akure, marking another milestone in the state’s agricultural development strategy.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, Chairman of OSAEC, Hon. Rotimi Wemimo Akinsola, said the programme is a key component of the administration’s OUR EASE agenda, which positions agriculture as a central driver of economic growth and social stability.
He disclosed that the current disbursement follows an earlier N8.5 million released in the first phase, noting that the initiative is being implemented across Ondo’s three senatorial districts to ensure inclusiveness and wider reach.
Akinsola explained that beneficiaries undergo a structured process, including screening, hands-on training in poultry production and practical exposure at designated farm centres before receiving financial support.
Each production cycle runs for six weeks, during which participants are provided with essential inputs such as chicks, feed, medication and technical guidance. At the end of the cycle, proceeds from the sale of birds are used to offset production costs, while profits are shared among participants.
He noted that the Isuada centre in Ondo North has completed its second production cycle, while the Ore centre in Ondo South has concluded its first and commenced the next phase. The Ondo Central centre is expected to begin operations soon.
According to him, the initiative is structured not only to provide financial support but also to build practical skills, ensure sustainability and promote agribusiness as a viable pathway for economic empowerment.
Akinsola added that the upcoming event will also serve to showcase the programme’s impact, deepen public awareness and encourage more residents to participate.
He further highlighted the complementary Eyin Irorun scheme, which provides eggs to residents at subsidised rates, describing it as part of broader efforts to improve food accessibility and affordability in the state.
The OSAEC chairman maintained that the programme represents a practical model for youth empowerment, women inclusion and poverty reduction, urging residents to take advantage of the opportunities provided as the state continues to prioritise agricultural transformation.
