The Taraba State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) has initiated the procurement process for critical infrastructure projects aimed at transforming livestock production and improving the livelihoods of pastoralist communities across the state.
The projects, supported by the World Bank, will provide water facilities, livestock support infrastructure and environmental management systems designed to strengthen the state’s livestock sector and enhance resilience among livestock farmers.
Speaking during a bid opening ceremony in Jalingo, the State Project Coordinator, Hananiah Albert, said the initiative underscores the project’s commitment to delivering interventions that will modernise livestock production and drive sustainable development.
Represented by the project’s ICT and Communications Officer, Ezra Artimas, Albert disclosed that the planned projects include the construction of seven solar-powered boreholes and associated facilities in seven grazing reserves, alongside three water-harvesting infrastructure projects for pastoralist communities.
He added that the project will also undertake the establishment of waste management systems, upgrade existing feed mills, rehabilitate model poultry farms and construct goat and sheep pens to support livestock value chain development in the state.
According to him, the interventions are expected to improve access to water, enhance livestock productivity and create better economic opportunities for pastoral households.
Albert further assured stakeholders that the procurement process would be conducted in line with principles of transparency, accountability and international best practices to ensure value for money and successful project delivery.
