Olam Agri is set to establish an integrated animal feed manufacturing facility in Delta State with a combined annual production capacity of about 550,000 metric tonnes, in a move expected to improve feed availability and support livestock and aquaculture production across southern Nigeria.
The $70 million facility, located in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area, will produce 450,000 metric tonnes of poultry feed and nearly 100,000 tonnes of aquafeed annually, serving farmers in the South-South and South-East regions.
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, who performed the ground-breaking ceremony, said the investment would address a major gap in the region’s livestock industry, where farmers have largely depended on feed supplies transported from the South-West and Middle Belt.
He said feed accounts for between 60 and 80 per cent of livestock and poultry production costs, making access to affordable supplies critical to farmers’ profitability. The new facility, he added, would reduce transportation expenses and improve the availability of feed, with potential benefits for the prices of chicken, eggs and fish.
The project is also expected to create a market for locally produced maize, soybean and other agricultural raw materials, providing opportunities for farmers while strengthening the link between crop production and the livestock industry.
Oborevwori said the investment followed engagements at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit in August 2026 and aligned with his administration’s industrialisation and agricultural development agenda under the MORE Agenda.
He disclosed that the state provided approximately 99.99 acres of land for the facility without charging the company for the allocation and paid compensation to facilitate the project’s take-off.
The governor assured Olam Agri of government support, urging host communities to protect the investment and avoid actions that could disrupt construction. He also said the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku had indicated the availability of about 8,000 hectares of land for further investment.
Earlier, Sharad Gupta, President and Global Head of Integrated Feed and Protein at Olam Agri, said the company’s decision to site the facility in Delta was driven by the agricultural potential of the South-South and South-East regions. He commended the governor for his commitment to the project.
