Stakeholders, including farmers and traders have urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to establish more fresh food hubs within the state.
This call was made during the kick-off of the 20 Saturdays Fresh Food Produce Fair in Mushin, Lagos, emphasizing the necessity for additional hubs to enhance productivity and supply residents with fresh, quality, and hygienic food.
During the event, the stakeholders praised the governor for the establishment of the first food hub in Mushin. Foluso Adams, the General Secretary of the Poultry Farmers Association, called for the emulation of this initiative and urged the establishment of more food hubs.
Chinaza Asonye, a fish and mushroom farmer, highlighted to newsmen the significant opportunity the fresh food hub provides for Lagos State farmers to showcase their crops and attract potential buyers. Mukaila Saliu, a farmer turned trader, supported the food hub concept, expressing confidence in its ability to boost sales of farm produce.
Dapo Olakulehin, the general manager of the Lagos State Coconut Development Authority, disclosed that the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture organizes the fresh food produce fair. This event serves as a crucial platform for farmers in Lagos State to exhibit their produce and connect with the local community.
