The Kwara state government has launched a five-hundred-million-dollar food security program, the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), in response  to commercial demand for quality food and  to support farmers.

This programme, supported by the World Bank and the Federal Government, aims to promote livestock value chain production and commercialization in the state.

Inaugurating the project in Ilorin, Kwara, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq emphasized his administration’s investment in developing the livestock sector to maximize its potential, particularly in beef and dairy production. Governor AbdulRazaq explained that Kwara State has a comparative advantage in all aspects of livestock production.

He said the government has embraced programs such as the Special Agro-Processing Zone (SAP-Z) and the L-PRES project to ensure that farmers can respond to commercial demand for quality food and contribute to the global economy.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Adebayo, described the project as a positive milestone for Kwara’s agricultural sector and commended the Governor for his commitment.

The L-PRES National Project Coordinator, Mallam Sanusi Abubakar, expressed excitement about the Governor’s enthusiasm for upgrading and modernizing the livestock value chain in the state.

According to Mallam Sanusi Abubakar, the objectives of L-PRES are to improve the productivity and resilience of targeted livestock value chains in Nigeria, as well as strengthen the resilience of livelihoods affected by farmer-herder conflicts.
