To address the challenges posed by climate change, Minister of State for Environment, Iziaq Adekunle Salako has called for nature-based solutions in tackling climate-related issues.
Salako underscored the significance of environmental conservation initiatives in Nigeria.
During the 50th National Convention of the Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya Nigeria in Abuja on Sunday, Salako emphasized the crucial need for green initiatives in a country deeply connected to nature.
He pointed out that many of climate-related issues are human-caused, and stressed proper management and utilization of natural resources to mitigate these challenges.
The minister outlined the government’s primary focus on improving Nigeria’s environment through various green initiatives, such as promoting urban green spaces, planting trees, cultivating flowers, and discouraging harmful practices like deforestation, given their detrimental impact on the environment. He reiterated the commitment to environmental sustainability and proactive measures to safeguard and enhance the nation’s natural resources.
Alhaji Olatoye Folorunsho Abdulaziz, the Amir of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Nigeria, highlighted the crucial role of youth, particularly the Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya Nigeria, in achieving developmental objectives.
He encouraged the youth to remain consistent in their positive actions and to be resilient in the face of challenges, noting issues such as dishonesty, kidnapping, and other societal ills that they must confront in their environment.
