Food Security: Flood Destroys Farmland in Gombe, Yobe

by AgroNigeria

No fewer than 4,167 houses and farmlands were destroyed by flooding in Gombe and Yobe states.

In Gombe, 2,517 houses and shops across 33 communities were impacted by heavy rainfall between August 12 and 22.

The affected areas include Dukku, Funakaye, and Billiri LGAs, with minimal farmland damage but two children injured and seven animals lost.

In Yobe, 1,650 houses were destroyed in Jajere and Yunusari towns, with 413 households displaced. Relief efforts are underway, with the state government set to deliver aid within 48 hours.

Meanwhile, Taraba State has formed a Flood Control Team across all 168 wards in anticipation of flooding due to water release from Cameroon’s Lagdo Dam.

Anambra State residents in flood-prone areas have also been advised to evacuate crops, poultry, and livestock due to rising water levels in the River Niger.

Communities are taking precautions, with some residents already relocating and harvesting crops to avoid losses.
