The wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti has empowered 120 beneficiaries of the Abia Youths Agricultural Support Programme with a grant of N100,000 each, totaling N12 million.

The programme was in line with the Renewed Hope Initiative of the wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

The beneficiaries had earlier been empowered with ‘Training and Distribution of Starter Packs Agricultural Support Programme after several months of training.

Speaking during the occasion, on Friday in Umuahia, Otti said, “The Youth Agricultural Support Programme is more than just a training initiative; it is a catalyst for change. It is an opportunity for our youth to acquire the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to succeed in agriculture and contribute to our state’s economic growth.”

Represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adaeze Chidera Emetu, the first lady  explained that this initiative showcases the current administration’s dedication to unlocking the potential of young individuals in agriculture while propelling the growth of the state’s agricultural sector.

“By aligning with our nation’s vision to fortify agriculture and ensure food security, we are taking a significant step towards a brighter, more sustainable future.

“At the heart of this initiative, Youth Agricultural Support Program, lies a profound commitment to empowering our young people and communities through sustainable agriculture.

“Our efforts also focus on elevating livelihoods by providing training, resources, and support to local farmers, entrepreneurs, and artisans, enabling them to increase their income and build resilient businesses.

“Furthermore, by stimulating local economic growth, we aim to create a thriving economy that benefits our communities and fosters a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.

“Agriculture is the bedrock upon which civilization and stable economies are built. These profound insights underscore the pivotal role of agriculture in sustaining human progress and caution that our disconnection from the earth and its rhythms can lead to a disconnection from our very essence.

“As we gather to explore the future of farming and food production, let us remember the profound impact that agriculture has on our daily lives. From the food on our tables to the clothes on our backs, agriculture is the backbone of our economy, and it is exciting to see our youth taking an interest in this sector”.

She commended Oluremi Tinubu for her visionary leadership in championing the Youth Agricultural Support Programme under the Renewed Hope Initiative, stating.

“Her relentless efforts to promote sustainable agriculture, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is a testament to her dedication and inspiring commitment to the nation’s growth.

“This impactful program, in collaboration with my office, equipped women and students with essential skills in sustainable agriculture, including organic fertilizer production, animal feed formulation, pest management, and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)”, she said and advised beneficiaries to seize the opportunity to transform their lives and communities.

“Harness the training and resources provided to unlock your potential. Be diligent in your pursuit of agricultural excellence, innovative in your approaches, and committed to your success. Remember, agriculture is a powerful engine for growth, providing food for our communities, creating jobs, and shaping a brighter future for ourselves and future generations”, she added

Earlier, the state Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba described the program as “a laudable project aimed at food security”, while the Mayor, Umuahia North described the program as “aimed at encouraging and empowering our women and youths who have a passion for farming”.
