by AgroNigeria

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has launched a farm input distribution program for 1,000 cooperative societies across the state to enhance food security.

The program, supported by the Multicultural Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP), aims to improve economic growth and the welfare of farmers in all 21 local government areas.

Beneficiaries, mainly women and youths, are expected to contribute to the improvement of the agricultural sector, which faces numerous challenges.

Deputy Governor Prof. Kaletawpa Farauta, representing the governor, said the livestock productivity enhancement program is designed to improve livestock health and production through targeted interventions.

He highlighted the government’s efforts under MCRP to revitalize a dormant fish hatchery, merge irrigation schemes, and upgrade facilities at the College of Agriculture in Ganye.

Dr. Maurice Vunobolki, MCRP Coordinator in Adamawa, said the support aims to boost agricultural production and value chains for over 40,000 households through 1,000 cooperative societies.

Distributed items include complete mini-mechanized farm tools and certified maize, rice, and soya bean seeds.

Serena Cavicchi, Co-Tax Team Leader and Head of North-East Operations at the World Bank, said the bank is exploring ways to make the intervention more sustainable in the state.

According to Cavicchi, the support will enable cooperative societies to address huge food and nutrition crises in the future.
