AgroKitchen: Homemade Peanut Butter

Groundnut, commonly known as peanuts, is a nutritious legume rich in protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. Groundnut butter, a popular spread, is not only delicious but also offers numerous health benefits. Making groundnut butter at home ensures freshness and allows customization according to taste preferences.

Ingredients:

– Raw peanuts (unsalted)

– Salt (optional, for taste)

– Sweeteners (optional, like honey or sugar)

– Oil (optional, for smoother consistency)

Equipment:

– Oven or microwave

– Baking sheet (if using oven)

– Food processor or blender

– Spatula

– Airtight container for storage

Step 1: Roasting the Peanuts

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Alternatively, you can use a microwave.

2. Spread the raw peanuts evenly on a baking sheet if using an oven.

3. Roast the peanuts in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they turn golden brown and aromatic. If using a microwave, place the peanuts in a microwave-safe dish and microwave on high for 2-3 minutes, stirring halfway through.

4. Allow the roasted peanuts to cool for a few minutes.

Step 2: Grinding the Peanuts

1. Transfer the roasted peanuts into the food processor or blender.

2. Optionally, add a pinch of salt or any desired sweeteners like honey or sugar for taste.

3. If you prefer a smoother consistency, add a tablespoon of oil (preferably peanut oil) to the peanuts.

4. Secure the lid of the food processor or blender tightly.

Step 3: Blending

1. Start blending the peanuts at a low speed, gradually increasing to high speed.

2. Stop and scrape down the sides of the processor or blender with a spatula every few minutes to ensure even blending.

3. Continue blending until the mixture reaches the desired consistency, smooth and creamy.

Step 4: Adjusting Consistency and Flavor (Optional)

1. Taste the groundnut butter and adjust the seasoning according to your preference by adding more salt or sweetener.

2. If the butter is too thick, you can add more oil to achieve the desired consistency.

Step 5: Storage

1. Transfer the freshly made groundnut butter into a clean, airtight container.

2. Store the groundnut butter in the refrigerator for up to a month or in the pantry for a couple of weeks.

Step 6: Enjoy!

1. Use the homemade groundnut butter as a spread on bread, toast, crackers, or as an ingredient in various recipes.

2. Remember to stir the groundnut butter before each use as natural separation may occur over time.
