In its drive to cushion the impacts of hunger in the face of the current food crisis, the Akwa Ibom State government has intervened with the flag-off of the distribution of free farm inputs to farmers as the farming season approaches.
This was revealed over the weekend during the launch ceremony held at the Multiplication Seed Farm (MSF) at Ebighi Anwa community in Okobo Local Government Area. The Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Offiong Offor, officiated at the event.
Dr. Offfor stated that the administration’s focus centers on agricultural revolution. This gathering signifies the commencement of the first planting season for the year.
“Food is ranked first in the hierarchy of human needs,” she stressed.
“That explains why the governor has repeatedly called on the people to return to farming. This occasion serves as a timely opportunity to showcase the government’s plan for the people.”
It was gathered that the intervention aligns with Governor Umo Eno’s deliberate policy to increase agricultural production and enhance food sufficiency.
