A bill proposing the establishment of a Federal College of Agriculture in Awba-Ofemili, a predominantly agrarian riverine community in Awka North Local Government Area, has successfully passed its second reading in the House of Representatives, paving the way for a promising development boost in the community.
The bill, initially introduced by the late Hon. Anayo Nebe, who represented the Awka North and South Federal Constituency in the 7th National Assembly, faced legislative challenges and remained incomplete. However, the incumbent representative for the constituency, Prof. Lilian Orogbu, has revived the initiative and pushed it forward.
Speaking during an interactive session with her constituents at Emmaus House, Awka, Prof. Orogbu provided an update on her legislative activities over the past 18 months. She highlighted the Federal College of Agriculture bill as a key achievement, emphasizing that its successful passage and presidential assent would solidify the federal government’s presence in the community.
In addition to this, Prof. Orogbu noted that she has sponsored another bill aimed at establishing a College of Entrepreneurship Studies in Awka.
Furthermore, she has introduced five motions on the floor of the House, including one urging the federal government to adopt modern technology to enhance border security.
