In a bid to boost agricultural production in Kano State, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in collaboration with the state government, has distributed essential agricultural inputs to 1,000 farmers as part of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) program.

This initiative, a part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, aims to establish Nigeria as a leading global force in agriculture. The project focuses on rice and tomato cultivation across Bagwai and Kura Local Government Areas, with 500 farmers assigned to each crop.

Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, highlighted that the program aims to empower skilled farmers with critical resources, ultimately enhancing agricultural productivity. Addressing the farmers, Dr. Mahmoud urged them to leverage the provided support fully to achieve optimal yields.

Similarly, Dr. Kabir Yusuf, the National Program Coordinator, pointed out that the initiative is closely aligned with the president’s vision to enhance food security, create employment, and drive economic growth.

He further explained that this pilot project would serve as a strategic model for extending SAPZ across all 16 Local Government Areas in Kano State.
